Mod Podge and Glitter Ornament…Oh My!

I want to show you this sweet little ornament I made. It was inspired by one I saw on Pinterest; however, being that I’m me, I can’t find it now. Isn’t that the point of that website? To be able to pin and find what you are looking for? It’s probably right under my nose…anywho…here is is:

Super, super, super easy to make. All you need is

Glass balls (tee hee…yes HD, I said balls). I got mine for 50% off at Hob Lob, but I’m sure you can get them anywhere.

Glitter, Mod Podge, paper (again, Hob Lob at 50% off, but you could totally use an old book, music sheets, really anything you’d like…in fact, I think the thinner the paper is the better.)

Jute or twine

A hole punch, scissors, card stock (or other heavy paper) for you to print “Noel” on from your computer. I downloaded a cool font for free from www.dafont.com called “One Fell Swoop”. I really liked the way the “N” looked.

And some stamp pads and a sponge (pictured in the previous photo) to distress the paper you printed on. I used gold, silver, and a really light blue. All I did was rub the ink on the paper around the word and added a teeny tiny bit of glitter before the ink completely dried. It stuck nicely to the card stock.
Then all I did was cut the paper into smallish strips and started gluing them onto the ornament. I sprinkled very liberally with glitter before the glue dried and I hung them up on a dowel to dry.

I don’t have any action shots because my hands were, well gluey.
I also glued the holder thingy and glittered the heck out of it

After that, I wrapped the twine around the holder added the “Noel” and made a loop to hang the ornament with.

The project was fast (although a bit messy) and really inexpensive. It would be super fun to include the kiddos on this one.
On a side note, I was recently at A-Trains for a party (see my previous post) and met a fellow blogger. It was unknown to each of us that the other blogged until A-Train said, “You should read each other’s blogs.” In a perfectly sicken moment, we looked at each other and (very girly like) squealed “YOU BLOG???!!!” Then she asked me what my blog was name and I said “Murphy’s Law…Only Worse.” and she said, “OH! THAT is PERFECT for you! It is SO YOU.” So there you have it, proof positive that this crap is real…LOL!

In addition to linky this up to the blogs in my Luck Linky tab, I've joined my first Blog Hop over at The Project Queen...check some of these nifty projects out!

  2. How funny...I just made some of these after seeing them on Pinterest too! Here's the link for the ones I saw (before I saw yours!) http://fleamarketstylemag.blogspot.com/2010/12/guest-blogger-post-using-vintage-papers.html

I bought a package of 12 small ornaments at the Dollar Tree and used those. I just recently found a package of bigger ornaments at a thrift store, so I think I'll make some more.

These were really fun, so I'm excited to try more. I used newspaper for mine, so painted over them with white before glittering. I think I'm going to try some other colors next time.

Sorry for writing a book here! I was just excited to see that someone else had tried this as well!

  3. Hi Trixie, Thanks so much :)

Hi Monica, Thank you for giving me the link! I always try to give props to my sources. That's a great idea to use dollar store ornaments!

  4. Love, love, love finding other bloggers in "real" life! I also like finding others who read blogs that I read and love. :)
Thanks so much for stopping by my little blog corner and leaving me a comment.
    Blessings,
